Title : Inseparable Companions: Mary Magdalene, Abelard, and Heloise [The author analyzes both Abelard’s and Heloise’s ideas about Mary Magdalene. Rather than concentrating on her sinful life, Abelard emphasized her devotion to Christ and her role of apostle to the apostles in first bringing news of the Resurrection. The strong presence of the Magdalene in the Paraclete liturgy and Heloise’s questioning about her in the “Problemata” help to indicate Heloise’s concern to emulate the Magdalene’s loving devotion perhaps not only for Christ but for Abelard as well.
